City council can have great power, if used properly, to influence the state level government. Especially where Aurora is concerned with 3 counties within it's borders.
City council is not the head but it's the neck on which the head of city government turns.
Yes, it's somewhat beneficial but it's basically among the entry level positions in politics other than commissions.
