Michigan Budget Approval Deadline Amendment did not appear on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot in Michigan as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The proposed measure called for an amendment to dock the pay of each lawmaker for every day beyond the deadline that the budget was not passed.[1]

  • Kalamazoo Gazette supported the proposed measure. In a February 2010 editorial the board said, "The odds are long, but it’s not impossible and it sure is tempting. Placing consequences on elected officials in Lansing for endless partisan bickering and ineffective governing makes more sense than having the consequences fall on schools and other essential public services."[2]
