Voter ID petition circulating in Mississippi

JACKSON, Mississippi. Delbert Hosemann is sponsoring the Mississippi Voter Identification Petition (2010) after the Mississippi Senate failed to take action on the proposal.[1]
The measure, if successful, would require Voter ID at the polls in the state. Hosemann says, "I've been pushing voter I.D. I think people see it as a common sense thing to do and I really think that this initiative is something that will pick up steam in the summer and that we'll be voting on it a year from now."
The measure would require voters to show a government-issued photo ID before being allowed to vote. At least 90,000 signatures, spread equally from Mississippi's four congressional districts are needed in order for the petition drive to be certified.
