Random sampling

Random sampling is a term used when describing the process of checking the validity of the signatures filed on a petition drive. Validity is the amount of valid signatures. Some states' offices (usually Secretary of State) check a random sample of the signatures. That random sample is usually about 5%-10% of the total signatures filed.

The other way of checking signature is simply a 100% validity check. Every signature filed is checked with this method.
