From Ballotpedia
Peter Sperling, whose primary residence is in Arizona, has donated $7.25 million to Proposition 7.[1]
Sperling lives part time in California, and graduated from the University of California-Santa Barbara.
Peter Sperling is the son of John Sperling. He ranked 562 on Forbes list of the world's wealthiest individuals in 2006, with an estimated fortune of about $1.4 billion.[2] In November 2002, Sperling paid $32 million for a home in San Francisco--the record price at that time for a San Francisco home. The home was later placed on the market for $65 million, after approximately $18 million was spent to improve it. As of 2007, no one had lived in the home. News reports indicate that Sperling owns more than 30 homes throughout the world.[3],[4]

Interest in California politics
In addition to his 2008 donations to Proposition 7, in 2005, Sperling gave:
- $50,000 to a campaign committee opposing California Proposition 77 (2005).
- $20,000 to a campaign committee supporting California Proposition 63 (2004).[5]
- Sperling gave $4,000 in 2007 to the campaign of a candidate for a seat on the Santa Barbara, California, city council.[6]
Fine for campaign finance violation
The California Fair Political Practices Commission fined Sperling in 2005 for violating Government Code Section 84200 by failing to disclose his $20,000 donation to Prop 63 within the timeframe prescribed by that code for major donors to California ballot initiative campaigns.[7]
Other giving
Sperling and his wife gave $5 million to a project focused on restoring the Ellwood Mesa Coast wetlands in Santa Barbara County.
