The Washington, D.C. Mayor is equal, in most aspects, to the position of a state governor. The mayor is elected by the people to a four-year term and is not restricted by term limits. Together with the council the mayor helps to establish the city's annual budget. However, the budget must still be approved by the U.S. Congress.
The current officeholder is Adrian Fenty.
