I've been adding information to Ballotpedia about initiative laws since my first contribution on September 12, 2007. That was the article Alaskans for Efficient Government, Inc. v State. If I had it to do over again, I would have put a "." after the "v".

My area of interest, obviously, are the laws that govern the initiative process and how they change over time. This includes articles about:

• Court cases. I've started a number of articles about court cases, such as Citizens for Tax Reform v. Deters and Prete v. Bradbury.

• Laws passed by state legislatures that expand or reduce initiative rights. There were a lot of those in 2007 and 2008. I started or added to Changes in 2007 to laws governing the initiative process and Changes in 2008 to laws governing the initiative process.

• The current statutes in each I&R state. I've seen these improve a lot since last September. Each of these articles is now called [[Laws governing the initiative process in NAME OF STATE]].

Now that we are starting to have more formal projects on Ballotpedia, I have agreed to lead a project on improving Ballotpedia's articles about initiative laws--which includes all three of the above categories, and probably more that I haven't thought of.

Organizing the Ballotpedia law project How Can I Contribute? Visit the project page regularly for updates. Invite your friends to get involved. Direct them to Getting Started on Ballotpedia. Commit to spending 1-2 hours a week building articles in this project through the end of April 2008. Volunteer to take responsibility for several key articles such as those about state laws governing the initiative. Connect with others at Ballotpedia's community pages. State laws governing initiatives For every I&R state, there is an article about its laws governing the initiative. These articles should all be checked and improved. One way to improve our law articles is to include more historical material about how initiative laws in the I&R states have changed over time. Articles about specific statutes, such as those collected in Changes in 2007 to laws governing the initiative process. We should improve these articles where possible and make sure that the state I&R law articles incorporate the latest information.

Ballot access law cases Add redlinks to articles about court cases we haven't covered yet. Write articles about red-linked court cases. Add to and improve existing court case articles.
