United Gamefowl Breeders v. Nixon

United Gamefowl Breeders v. Nixon is a lawsuit filed by the United Gamefowl Breeders in 2000 in Missouri in an attempt to retroactively invalidate the 1998 anti-cocking fighting initiative, Proposition A. That proposition had passed with 62.6% of the vote
The United Gamefowl Breeders (UGB) argued that the ballot title of the initiative petition contained more that one subject in violation of the Missouri Constitution's Article III, Section 50. The UGB believed this because the proposition referred to:
- Cockfighting
- Bear-fighting
- Possessing certain implements, the latter of which was not stated in the title.
Jay Nixon, the Missouri Attorney General declined to see things the same way as the UGB, who then sued.
