The Santa Cruz County Library Tax Measure R appeared on the June 3, 2008 ballot in Santa Cruz County, California, where it was approved.[1] To pass, it had to be approved by 67% of voters.

The measure extends an existing quarter-cent sales tax increase that voters approved by more than the required two-thirds majority in 1996. That tax is due to expire in 2013. Measure R makes the quarter cent sales tax permanent.

Scotts Valley resident Bob Suhr argued against Measure R, saying that the tax should not be renewed five years before the existing tax expires. Pro-library tax supporters want the tax approved now for planning purposes.[2]
