Peter Knudson (b. October 26, 1937) has been a Republican member of the Utah Senate since 1998, representing the 17th district.

Education

Knudson earned his BS from Utah State University. He went on to receive his AS from Weber State University in 1962. He then earned his DDS from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at the University of Pacific in 1996. In 1969 he received his MS from Loyola University in Chicago. He also received his Certificate of Specialization in Orthodontics from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1969.

Professional experience

Knudson is a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserves. He worked for United States Public Health Service from 1966 to 1967. From 1956 to the present, Knudson served as a Colonel in the Utah Army National Guard. He currently works as an orthodontist and has worked in that field since 1969.

Political experience

Knudson's political experience began with his work as Chair of the Brigham City Republican Party from 1972 to 1974. He served as a member of the Brigham City Council from 1974 to 1978. He went on to become the mayor of Brigham City in 1978 and served in that position until 1990. He then served as Chair of the Box Elder Republican Party from 1991 to 1993. In December of 1994, he was appointed to the Utah State House of Representatives. Knudson served in this position until 1998, when he was elected to the Utah State Senate. He has served in the senate since 1998 and is currently the Majority Leader. He represents the 17th district.
