Oregon Ballot Measure 83 (2000)

Oregon Ballot Measure 83 (2000) or Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 2 is a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment that would expand the eligibility for receiving home and farm veterans' loans. The proposed amendment would also authorize the Director of Veterans' Affairs to establish standards and priorities for granting loans from the Oregon War Veterans' Fund.[1]

This measure passed at the November 2000 General Election.
Support
Many legislators as well as veteran's groups rallied around this measure, saying that it was the "right thing to do" for Oregonians who have served their country. They also point out that it will cost the state nothing, as the funds are taken from mortgage payments from people who have recieved home loans, and not from taxpayer money. [3]
