New Orleans city employees solicited for Dem rally
From Ballotpedia
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's director of public advocacy, Clarice Kirkland, sent an e-mail on October 20, 2008, using a taxpayer-funded e-mail account, asking for City Hall workers to volunteer for a Democrat rally.[1] Investigators with Secretary of State Jay Dardenne's office are looking into possible violations of Louisiana election law in connection with the email, which states that the "opportunity is only open to unclassified employees, due to Louisiana voter laws." State law bars civil service workers from electioneering. The message did not state if volunteers would have to take time off from work to participate in the rally. Dardenne spokesman Jacques Berry said the inquiry deals with the section of state law that prohibits voter intimidation and election fraud. If evidence of a violation is found, it will be turned over to the Orleans Parish district attorney for possible prosecution.[2]
