Nebraska Amendment 2B, also known as a constitutional amendment to authorize legislation relating to mergers and consolidations by local governments, was on the November 7, 1998 election ballot in Nebraska. It passed, with 56% of voters in favor.

The measure was referred to the ballot by the Nebraska State Legislature.

Text of the proposal

The language that appeared on the ballot:

Amend the constitution by adding a new section allowing the Legislature by law to provide for the merger or consolidation of counties or other local government, or reversal of such merger of consolidation, which legislation shall provide that no such merger or consolidation or reversal of such merger or consolidation, of municipalities or counties shall occur unless a majority of the people voting in each municipality or county affected shall approve.
