Nancy Cassis has been a Republican member of the Michigan Senate since 2002. Cassis was re-elected in November of 2006 with her term expiring in 2010. Cassis is term-limited in 2010. Cassis serves as the Chairwoman of the Republican Senate Caucus. Before becoming a Senator, Cassis won a special election in 1996 to the Michigan House of Representatives. Cassis served in the Michigan House until 2002 and was the Assistant Minority Whip and the Dean of the House Republican Caucus. Before entering into the Michigan Legislature, Cassis was a Councilwoman for the City of Novi from 1985 to 1993 and from 1995 to 1996.

Cassis graduated with her Bachelor's Degree from Ohio in 1966 and later earned her Master's Degree in 1979 and her Education Studies Doctoral degree in 1980 from Michigan 1980. Cassis worked as a Teacher in Cleveland, OH from 1966 to 1968 and was a School Psychologist in Michigan from 1980 to 1996.

Cassis represents Michigan Senate District 15. District 15 includes the Western Detroit suburbs of Northville, Novi, South Lyon, Orchard Lake, and Wixom[2].

Personal

Nancy is married to Victor Cassis. They have seven children and reside in Novi, Michigan.
