The Missouri Senate is the upper house in the Missouri Legislature. It consists of 34 members, representing districts with an average of 172,895 residents. The senators serve four-year terms, with a limit of two terms. Half of the senate is up for re-election every two years. The 95th session of the Missouri General Assembly convened January 7th, 2009, and elected Charlies Shields, R-St. Joseph as president pro tem.
