Gary Cates (b. December 27, 1955) has been a Republican member of the Ohio Senate since 2005, representing the 4th district.
Education
Cates earned his BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1978. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Dayton in 1981.
Professional experience
Cates is a Steel Applications Engineer.
Political experience
Cates served as Vice President of Union Township Trustee in 1991, 1994, and 1995. He also served as President from 1992 to 1993. He then served in the Ohio State House of Representatives from 2000 to 2004. During this time he served as Speaker Pro Tempore. He joined the Ohio State Senate in 2005. He has served in that position since, representing the 4th district.
