The Montana GOP is disputing 6,000 voter registration applications in Silverbow, Deer Lodge, Glacier and Lewis and Clark counties.[1]

Forward Montana protested the decision in front of the Republican Party offices voicing their disagreement with the GOP’s decision to question eligibility of 3,000 Missoula County voters.

Lawsuit

A pair of Missoula County voters and the Montana Democratic Party filed suit in federal court to halt broad Republican challenges of newly registered voters, halt a letter from being mailed to each of the challenged voters.[2],[3]

Republicans drop challenge

Republicans dropped the voter registration challenge after county election officials told them that thousands of the challenges would be deemed invalid.[4] If that would have happened, the affected voters would have had to re-register or provide an affidavit to prove their address was correct.

Executive director of the Montana Republican Party, Jacob Eaton, sent out a letter to election officials on October 7 saying they were withdrawing the challenge and that no more would be brought.
