Dean Florez (b. 1963) is a Democratic member of the California State Senate. He represents California's 16th Senate District. His current four-year term ends in 2010 and he will not be able to run again for the California Senate because of the state's term limits. He is currently serving as the Senate Majority Leader.
Florez has announced his candidacy for the Lieutenant Governor of California seat in the 2010 elections.[1]
Prior to joining the state senate, Florez served in the California State Assembly from 1998-2002.
Florez attended Bakersfield College and went on to earn a B.S. in Political Science from UCLA in 1986 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1993. He worked as a consultant to the Senate Budget & Fiscal Review committee from 1986-1991 and as president of the Ophon Consulting Group from 1995-1998.
Florez is married to Elsa Florez and they have two children.

Florez is a co-sponsor of Senate Bill 24, which would make it illegal to pay initiative circulators on a pay-per-signature basis.[2],[3]

California Senate District 16 is in the southern Central Valley of California. It includes all of Kings County and parts of Fresno, Kern, and Tulare counties.[11]
