Dave Cox (b. 1938) is a Republican member of the California State Senate. He represents California's 1st Senate District. He was first elected to the state senate in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008; his current term expires in 2012.
Cox previously served as a member of the California State Assembly, where he represented the 5th District from 1998-2004, serving as the Assembly Republican Leader in 2000-2004. He also served on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and on the Sacramento Municipal Utility District board.

1st district profile
The 1st Senate District runs along the eastern edge of California, from the Mojave Desert to the Oregon borer. Most of the district is rural.
The district includes all of Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, Amador, El Dorado, Calaveras, Alpine, and Mono counties. It also contains parts of Nevada County, Placer County, and Sacramento County.
