A Colorado Gay Marriage Amendment may appear on the 2010 ballot in Colorado as an initiated constitutional amendment. Stu Allen of Lakewood and Hallie Atencio of Denver are the registered proponents of a ballot measure that would change the Colorado Constitution to recognize marriage as a union between two consenting adults.[1]
A "review and comment" session, one of a number of legalities to go through to get a measure on the ballot, took place on February 9, 2009.
If the proposed measure makes it to the 2010 ballot, it will override Colorado Amendment 43 (2006).
The wording of the potential constitutional amendment as originally submitted says:
- "Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado Constitution, concerning marriage, specifying that any union between two consenting adults be valid or recognized as a marriage in Colorado?"
