Charles S. Dean, Sr. (b. May 31, 1939) is a Republican member of the Florida Senate, representing District 3.
Education
Dean earned his AA from Central Florida Community College in 1962. He went on to receive his BS in Criminology/Police Administration from Florida State University in 1963. He then earned his MS in Criminal Justice from Rollins College in 1976. He later attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Sheriffs' Institute in 1983.
Professional experience
Dean was a College Intern for the City of Tampa Police in 1963. He also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1964. In 1964 he was an Investigator for Florida Installment Land Sales. He then worked as Juvenile Counselor for the Citrus County Juvenile Court from 1972 to 1975. From 1965 to 1980 he was Director of General Services for the Citrus County School Board. Dean then worked as a Sheriff for Citrus County from 1981 to 1996. He is currently a Consultant and Cattleman.
Political experience
Dean served in the Florida State House of Representatives from 2002 to 2007. He joined the Florida State Senate in 2007 and has served in that position since. He has been Senate Majority Whip since 2008, representing the 3rd district.
