Mississippi Voter ID initiative surpasses signature halfway mark
JACKSON, Mississippi: According to Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, Mississippi Voter Identification Petition (2011) proponents have gathered more than half of the required signatures to place the initiative on the 2011 statewide ballot. A minimum of 90,000 valid signatures are required to qualify the measure.[1] The measure, if successful, would require Voter ID at the polls in the state. The measure was previously proposed for the 2008 ballot, however, Mississippi Senate failed to take action on the proposal. The 2011 initiative is sponsored by Delbert Hosemann and Sen. Joey Fillingane.
Mississippi Voter ID likely to be on 2011 ballot
JACKSON, Mississippi: Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann announced this week that the Mississippi Voter Identification Petition is likely to appear on the Mississippi ballot, not for 2010 but for 2011. With just over a week to collect a total of 90,000 valid signatures, Hosemann said it's unlikely petition supporters will make the deadline for the November 2010 ballot. However, if initiative supporters miss the October deadline then signatures may be submitted by February 2010 for the November 2011 ballot.[2] A total of 35,000 signatures have already been verified by the state.[3]
Mississippi Voter ID petition deadline weeks away
JACKSON, Mississippi: The petition deadline for the Mississippi Voter Identification Petition (2010) is only weeks away and petition supporters still have a minimum of approximately 55,000 signatures to collect. According to Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Brad White 35,000 signatures have already been verified.[4] The proposed measure, if approved by voters, would require Voter ID at the polls in the state. The measure is sponsored by Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and Sen. Joey Fillingane for the 2010 statewide ballot after the Mississippi Senate failed to take action on the proposal.
The deadline for the November 2010 ballot is October 1, 2009. If initiative supporters miss the October deadline then signatures may be submitted by February 2010 for the November 2011 ballot.[5]

JACKSON, Mississippi: This month Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Brad White announced the beginning of a statewide speaking tour to promote the 2010 voter ID ballot initiative. The party has dedicated $150,000 for the campaign.[6] The initiative, if approved, would require voters to show a government-issued photo ID before being allowed to vote. At least 90,000 signatures, spread equally from Mississippi's four congressional districts are needed in order for the petition drive to be certified.[7] As of this month, supporters reported that they have collected a total of 25,000 signatures.[8] The deadline for the November 2010 ballot is October 1, 2009. If initiative supporters miss the October deadline then signatures may be submitted by February 2010 for the November 2011 ballot.[9]
