The Right to Health Initiative (07-0054) was intended for the November 2008 general election ballot in California as an initiated constitutional amendment to the California Constitution. Its supporters would have had to turn in 694,354 valid signatures by April 7, 2008 in order to make the November ballot. On April 18, 2008, the California Secretary of State announced that the measure had failed.[1]
The objective of the initiative is to declare that “the right to health is a fundamental human right” and that “equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged on account of health”. It also grants the California State Legislature the power to enforce these provisions by appropriate legislation.
