Awards are part of Ballotpedia's community. They are created, awarded by and received by Ballotpedia's editors, writers and readers.
Awards let members of the Ballotpedia community recognize each other for their contributions to building this free, online encyclopedia of all things ballot. Different Ballotpedians contribute to the encyclopedia in different ways, at different times. Awards are the community's way of recognizing different contributions.
Ways to contribute to Ballotpedia include:
- Building the community here. There are lots of ways to do that--by welcoming new editors, making yourself available to answer questions and a myriad of other ways. (Giving awards is one way to build community!)
- Contributing editorial content to Ballotpedia's articles.
- Organizing and leading projects on Ballotpedia.
- Staying on top of maintenance; the many routine tasks involved in keeping (or making) it easy to find and read this ballot encyclopedia.
How to give someone an award
To give someone an award that already exists, find the template for the award you've chosen and place that template on the talk page of the user you want to have the award. You can also go to the page about the award you've chosen and, once there, put your honoree in the list of those who have been given the award.
Creating new awards
Feel free to create and design new awards. Once you have a new award looking the way you like it, add it to the list of awards.
