Alfred Lawson, Jr. (b. September 21, 1948) is a Democratic member of the Florida Senate, representing District 6.
Education
Lawson earned his BS from Florida A&M University in 1970. He went on to receive his MSPA from Florida State University in 1973.
Professional experience
Lawson has worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1976 to the present. He has been President of Lawson & Associates Incorporated since 1984.
Political experience
Lawson served in the Florida State House of Representatives from 1982 to 2000. He then joined the Florida State Senate in 2001 and has served in that position since. He has been Senate Minority Leader since 2008, representing the 6th district.
