Albany Elected Mayor, Measure Y, 2008

An Albany Elected Mayor Proposal, Measure Y, was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Alameda County for voters in the City of Albany.
Measure Y asked voters whether they approved a modification to the city charter that would allow for direct election of the city mayor to a four-year term starting in 2012, and term limits on the elected position of mayor. The existing procedure for choosing a mayor in Albany is for the city council to appoint mayors for one-year terms.
Measure Y was defeated with 46.09% voting in favor.
The ballot language was:
- "Do you approve the modifications of Sections 2.01, 2.02, 5.01, 5.02, and 5.03 of the City Charter, as is fully set forth in the voter pamphlet, to provide for the electors of the City to directly elect the mayor beginning at the general election in 2012 and to provide for term limits for the mayoral position?"
