Alabama Amendment 5 was on the November 7, 1998 election ballot in Alabama. It was defeated, with 49.9% of voters in favor.

Text of the proposal

The language that appeared on the ballot:

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama, to provide a means by which members of the ratite industry may organize and by referendum levy upon themselves assessments for the purpose of financing promotional programs for the ratite industry. (Ratite is a variety of flightless birds including an ostrich, emu, rhea, cassowary or kiwi.)
